The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman

This place is all about the service. From the minute we stepped in the doors and were handed rum cake and a cocktail we were blown away by the staff. They were attentive, kind, and professional without fail.

Down at the beach, I only had to show up and I was led to a chair, towels were laid, the umbrella was adjusted, and waiters from the outdoor restaurant were standing nearby to take orders. For lunch one day, I had a piña colada and fish tacos without getting up from my beach chair. Like, seriously. I basically felt like royalty. And for a mom who spends my days wiping noses and prying dried banana off the floor, that’s not easily accomplished.

Sure, it’s not real life and it would probably spoil you rotten if you stayed too long, but that’s what makes it such a treat on vacation (or in our case a work trip for Bry that doubled as a mini vacation). The Ritz makes sure it really is a vacation. Meaning you don’t have to break a sweat for anything, unless it’s the morning yoga class on the lawn.

It’s such a pretty hotel and there are enough restaurants and activities (we liked the tennis courts and free snorkel gear) that you could be perfectly happy never leaving the grounds your entire stay. Though you really should tear yourself away to explore the rest of the island.

I think that level of pampering was a first for me. I’d hope that I wouldn’t ever take it for granted, but I know we humans tend to do that. Still, I do believe with all my heart in the importance of being thankful for each bit of beauty and joy that we’re given the chance to experience. Because it’s not a right. It’s a gift.
